Utah Nutrition & Physical Activity Plan
The Utah Nutrition & Physical Activity Plan 2010-2020 was developed to coordinate state efforts to reduce chronic diseases in Utah through nutrition and physical activity. The purpose of the plan is to provide cooperative goals and strategies to improving the burden of chronic diseases in Utah. The healthcare setting is targeted in this plan as a primary sector for promoting good nutrition and physical activity. Goals and strategies related to the healthcare setting in the plan are located on pages 62-67 of the plan.
National Physical Activity Plan

Health Care is one of the primary eight societal sectors with recommendations in National Physical Activity Plan (NPAP). A primary strategy in the NPAP for improving physical activity behaviors through the health care system is making physical activity a regularly assessed "vital sign". Other health care strategies in the NPAP include establishing physical inactivity as a treatable and preventable condition with serious health implications.
Healthy People 2020
The Healthy People 2020 Physical Activity Goal 11, is to increase the proportion of physician office visit that include counseling or education related to physical activity. This can be accomplished best by first assessing patient's physical activity levels, and then appropriately counseling greater physical activity.
