Asthma
Asthma has several early warning signs, the physical changes that occur in the early stage of airway obstruction. It is important to be aware of these warning signs to allow the student to take medication when asthma can still be controlled. Early warning signs include changes in breathing (coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath), verbal complaints (chest is tight or hurts, cannot catch breath, mouth is dry), itchy chin or neck, or the student speaks in short, choppy sentences. Additional information about asthma can be found on the Asthma Program website.
